2004 Sontag Award Recipient

"The Sontag Foundation's approach to making a difference for brain tumor patients is unique and very innovative. I know of no other 'funding agency' that cares so much, and that truly wants young scientists to succeed. You empower and facilitate. You have been a source of great inspiration to me."

About DSA-Funded Research

Dr. Lal investigated the consequences of disrupted Notch signaling in meningioma tumor development. She evaluated how Notch pathway components regulate meningioma cell growth in culture and as tumors in mice. She tested the therapeutic ability of drugs that inhibit Notch signaling and used gene expression technology to identify new genes that are downstream targets of Notch signaling in meningiomas. The goal of these studies was to increase knowledge about the molecular changes in meningiomas and potentially identify new treatments based on the unique biologic properties of these tumors.
